Playwright
I'm a playwright from the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. My writing makes its home along the line, investigating the contradictions within individuals and communities and the places where identities, histories, and competing versions of truth coexist without resolving cleanly.
My plays increasingly turn to American history as contested territory, asking how the stories a country tells about itself collide with experiences the official record cannot comfortably contain. I'm drawn to the gray areas that defy easy definition and the questions that emerge when established narratives are challenged.
My process begins with something that grabs my attention and builds through research, experimentation, and discovery.
About
I am a playwright based in Dallas, Texas, after more than a decade working in Chicago.
My plays have been commissioned, produced, and developed by Goodman Theatre, TimeLine Theatre Company, and the Grammy-nominated Sones de México Ensemble. My work has been performed in intimate theatres and before thousands at Millennium Park's Pritzker Pavilion.
My recent work includes George Washington's Mexican Birthday, commissioned by Goodman Theatre and nominated for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize; Black Sunday, which received its world premiere at TimeLine Theatre in 2024; and Man of the People, recognized by the Chicago Tribune as one of its “Top 10 Things to Do in Chicago.”
I hold an MFA in Writing for the Screen and Stage from Northwestern University. Alongside my artistic practice, I have taught dramatic writing at Columbia College Chicago, Northwestern University, and Texas Tech University. In 2026, I completed an artistic residency at the University of Notre Dame that combined new-play development, teaching, and interdisciplinary exchange.
